Job Description
The Construction Manager must have a strong knowledge of construction practices, design, build, safety, and other related practices conforming to utility industry standards. To include the ability to read construction drawings and manage construction schedules and budgets. The Construction Manager will work closely with Construction Supervisors and Crews, CMS Operations Director, City & County representatives and Customer Representatives to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of assigned customer jobs. The Construction Manager will provide day-to-day supervision of Field Supervisors, Crew Leaders, Laborers and subcontractors at customer sites. In this position, the Construction Manager will be responsible for all staff, budget and operations of the business. Duties/Responsibilities:
• Oversee day-to-day operations.
• Communicate and enforce policies and procedures.
• Ensure employees work productively develop professionally.
• Design strategy and set daily/weekly goals to achieve company and customers milestones.
• Visit project sites & record information gathered during the site visit, analyze and compile data on each factor that may have an influence on costs, and develop project cost estimates in order to determine if the project will be profitable.
• Accurately estimate the cost of upcoming projects.
• Monitor projects to ensure that projects are completed on schedule.
• Prepare regular reports for management, customers, and tracking purposes.
• Prior to project start-up secure purchase order, permit and perform site walk.
• Responsible for daily management of a customer project and the work crew(s) assigned to the project. Resolve problems, assign and manage workload, motivate crew, take disciplinary actions when required, etc…
• Communicate with the Field Supervisors & crews to obtain progress updates and ensure project issue resolution (at least twice per day).
• Responsible for ensuring that the Field Supervisors complete and submit required documentation (i.e. Daily Reports, Time-Cards, As-Built Redlines, Quality Control Reports, Change Order Requests, Request for Information, Incident/Accident Report).
• Responsible for monitoring Subcontractor project activities (scheduling, scope, Quality, etc.), and ensuring that the Subcontractors complete and submit required documentation (i.e. Daily Reports, As-Built Redlines, Quality Control Reports, Change Order Requests, Request for Information, Incident/Accident Report, and Closeout Packages).
• Responsible for ensuring all company and safety policies/regulations are enforced at the work site, to include OSHA regulations.
• Responsible for training of the project crew for field-work, e.g., loading and off-loading, correct tool and machinery use, etc.
• Work with Operations CMS Director to keep informed of changes/updates and schedule of customer job.
• Meet with Customer Representative(s) and provide project updates and closeout packages.
• Responsible for submitting purchase orders for material purchases (receipts), fuel purchases, etc. associated with all assigned projects.
• Attend Pre-Bid session when required.
• Analyze Subcontractors bids and incorporate into the overall project bid.
• Responsible for ordering and staging material, as per bid in coordination with the Warehouse Supervisor.
• Coordinate with Accounting to provide weekly Invoicing, including quantity tracking & costs.
• Coordinate with Accounting to provide inputs for job costing.
Qualifications/Skills:
• Education requirements: 4 yr. degree, Engineering or related construction management focus, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Related experience: Min. 7 years related construction design, build, safety, and other related practices conforming to utility industry standards, to include the ability to read construction drawings and manage construction schedules and budgets.
• Good working knowledge of construction tools, equipment and machinery, e.g., backhoe, loaders, bobcats, etc.
• Certification Requirements: OSHA/MOSH 10/30 Safety Training certified or able to obtain within 90 days of starting job.
• Valid Driver's License with no major infractions.
• Outstanding Organizational and leadership skills.
• Problem solving aptitude.
Qualifications/Skills (continued):
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, English/Spanish bi-lingual helpful.
• Excellent supervisory skills/experience, customer service skills and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to represent company and job professionally at all times and adapt easily to changes in job requirements, work schedules, job completion timelines, etc.
• Mathematical skills, e.g., area calculation, multiplication/division, percentages, etc.
• Computer skills, e.g., working knowledge of computer usage and related software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, any industry specific software knowledge, etc.
• Physical requirements: ability to lift/carry minimum 40 lbs., willingness/ability to work outdoors in all seasons, etc.
• Willingness/ability to work a flexible work schedule, including hours before/after regular work schedule, weekends and holidays as required to support business and customer needs.
• Travel requirements, up to 25%.
