This position is responsible for the installation, repair, and upgrading of outside plant facilities, including coaxial and fiber optic cables, utility poles, conduits, and associated hardware. These technicians work in the field—often outdoors and in varied conditions—to ensure robust and reliable network connectivity for residential, commercial, and institutional customers.
Key Responsibilities
• Install, maintain, and repair outside plant network components, including aerial, buried, and underground cable systems.
• Perform cable splicing and testing for both copper and fiber optic cables to guarantee signal integrity and compliance with industry standards.
• Operate and maintain construction equipment such as bucket trucks, trenchers, ladders, and power tools safely and efficiently.
• Read and interpret network design prints, as-builts, and work orders to accurately execute installation and upgrade projects.
• Conduct troubleshooting and fault isolation in the field to quickly resolve service issues and minimize downtime.
• Ensure all restoration work is completed to quality standards, including site clean-up and final inspections.
• Document all work performed and maintain accurate project records for compliance and future reference.
• Coordinate with construction managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure project objectives and timelines are met.
• Follow all safety protocols, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), and comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
Required Skills and Qualifications
• Proven experience in telecommunications, construction, or related field preferred.
• Strong knowledge of coaxial and fiber optic cable installation, splicing, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Competence in safe operation of vehicles, heavy equipment, and hand tools.
• Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, climb poles and ladders, and lift heavy objects as needed.
• Familiarity with interpreting technical blueprints, maps, and work orders.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
• Dedication to safety and compliance with all regulatory and company standards.
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is a plus.
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or specialized training in telecommunications is advantageous.
