Fiber technician: will install, splice, troubleshoot and repair fiber optic cables in the air, underground, and in commercial buildings.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Must be able to pull fiber optic cable through commercial buildings and conduit outdoors, from time to time as required
• Set up splice locations, termination points and general fiber optic engineering, construction practices
• Fusion splice fiber optic cables in a production environment for small to large projects
• Test and troubleshoot fiber optic networks for acceptance testing, and trouble shooting
• Primarily, this is an aerial and underground splicing position
• Must be available for after hours emergency work
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED
• BICSI or other relevant certifications are highly regarded, not required
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in the telecommunications or related field preferred
• Should possess effective time management skills and be able to meet deadlines
• Should have essential computer skills, specifically be able to use Google earth, MS Office and related programs
• Should be analytical, able to exercise good judgment, critical thinking and able to apply logical reasoning in seeking solutions to problems
• Ability to learn new technologies as needed to support future systems
• Should have current unrestricted driver’s license and dot med card
• Candidate should be able to work effectively in a group or alone
• Must be able to lift 75 lbs (primarily for extension ladders where buckets are not able to get to)
