Job Title: Aerial Line Technician II
Status: Hourly / Non-Exempt
Reports To: Foreman or Supervisor

Work Location: Outdoor Utility Construction Sites

Job Summary
The Aerial Line Technician II performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of aerial coaxial and fiber optic telecommunications lines. This position involves climbing poles, operating bucket trucks, using specialized tools and equipment, and ensuring all work meets industry specifications, company standards, and safety regulations. A Level II technician works more independently than entry-level crew members, provides guidance to junior team members, and demonstrates proficiency in troubleshooting and problem-solving in the field.

Essential Job Functions
• Install, maintain, and repair aerial coaxial and fiber optic lines to required specifications.
• Climb poles, use ladders, and operate aerial lift/bucket trucks to perform work at heights.
• Perform strand mapping, lashing, pole transfers, and overlash/de-lash activities.
• Read and interpret construction prints, staking sheets, and work orders.
• Use signal-level meters, test equipment, and other diagnostic tools to troubleshoot line and signal issues.
• Identify and replace damaged cables, hardware, and other aerial infrastructure components.
• Ensure proper grounding, bonding, and tensioning of aerial lines.
• Install and maintain aerial drops from main line to customer premises.
• Perform make-ready work, pole transfers, and ensure compliance with NESC (National Electrical Safety Code).
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on each project.
• Conduct and document pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and equipment.
• Follow established safety procedures, including fall protection and lockout/tagout requirements.
• Ensure work is completed without damage to other utilities or property.
• Mentor and assist less experienced crew members, including Level I Techs.
• Communicate effectively with Foreman, project managers, and inspectors regarding project status.
• Participate in on-the-job training and ongoing skills development.
• Maintain a clean, organized work vehicle and job site.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Required:
• Valid Chauffer’s License
• Clean driving record
• Current DOT Medical Card
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 2–3 years of aerial telecommunications construction experience
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications
• Proficiency in operating aerial lifts, strand and cable lashing equipment, and other aerial construction tools
• Knowledge of NESC and OSHA safety regulations
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair aerial cable systems efficiently and safely
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred:
• Certification in aerial lift operation or pole climbing
• Fiber optic splicing and testing experience
• Experience with both coaxial and fiber plant construction and maintenance
• Valid Class A CDL

Physical Demands
• Physical strength, balance, coordination, and stamina to complete tasks
• Ability to lift and carry up to 70 lbs and push/pull loads up to 50 lbs
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Ability to climb poles using hooks and belts and work at heights up to 50 feet
• Physical ability to operate vehicles and machinery

Work Environment
• Primarily outdoors at active utility construction sites, with exposure to all weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and wind
• Frequent work at heights and in proximity to power lines, vehicular traffic, and other utilities
• Exposure to loud noises, moving vehicles, and heavy machinery
• May require travel between job sites and overnight stays depending on project location
• Requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, high-visibility clothing, and fall protection gear
• Work may be performed during extended hours, evenings, weekends, and in emergency outage situations
