Position Summary:
The Underground Field Supervisor oversees day-to-day field operations related to underground utility construction projects, including fiber and coax infrastructure. This role ensures crews work safely, efficiently, and in compliance with specifications, timelines, and quality standards. The supervisor serves as the primary point of contact between the field teams, project management, and clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise underground construction crews, including laborers, equipment operators, and subcontractors
Coordinate daily work schedules, ensuring timely and safe completion of assignments
Inspect job sites for quality, safety, and adherence to project plans and specifications
Maintain accurate project records including daily reports, timesheets, and material usage
Assist with locating utilities and ensuring proper permitting and inspections
Ensure all team members follow safety procedures and use proper PPE
Train and mentor field personnel on construction techniques and company policies
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to resolve issues on-site
Conduct toolbox talks and contribute to a culture of safety and accountability
Manage field inventory, equipment usage, and material deliveries
Report progress, risks, and delays to management in a timely manner
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (technical training or certifications preferred)
3–5 years of experience in underground utility construction, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role
Strong knowledge of underground construction methods (e.g., trenching, boring, conduit/cable placement)
Familiarity with utility locating, permitting, and traffic control requirements
Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and utility maps
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
Working knowledge of OSHA standards and safety best practices
Proficient with mobile reporting tools, spreadsheets, and job tracking systems
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL a plus)
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding environments
Willingness to travel to various job sites and work extended hours as needed
