Job Summary:
The Underground (UG) Ground Hand is an entry-level position in the line of progression for Telecommunications Underground Construction. The UG Ground Hand assists in various manual labor tasks to support crew members in the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground telecommunications infrastructure. Responsibilities include preparing work sites, handling materials, operating tools, assisting with conduit and cable installation, and ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.

Key Qualifications:
-Ability to follow directions and take instruction from supervisors
-Ability to work effectively in a team environment
-Ability to communicate clearly using radios, verbal, and hand signals
-Must be able to lift and carry materials of all shapes and sizes, weighing 40 to 90 pounds
-Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and crawl for extended periods
-Must be able to work in confined spaces, trenches, or underground vaults
-Must be able to work in varying weather conditions and environments
-Must be able to wear required safety gear, including boots, safety glasses, gloves, hardhat, and high-visibility clothing
-Identifies unsafe conditions and takes appropriate action
-High school diploma or equivalent

Key Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
-Assists in loading, unloading, and staging materials, tools, and equipment at job sites
-Performs manual labor, including digging trenches, placing conduits, and assisting in pulling cables
-Assists in the operation of trenchers, hydro vacs, boring machines, and other underground construction equipment
-Ensures proper handling and placement of underground utility infrastructure
-Assists in identifying and marking underground utilities
-Assists with traffic control and site safety measures
-Ensures work areas are clean and organized at all times
-Drives a company-provided vehicle from the yard to the job site and back
-Performs other duties as assigned
