Qualifications
Experience in telecom construction and operating heavy equipment such as excavators, trenchers, and directional drills is required. Must be skilled in trenching, excavation, and reading utility maps to locate underground utilities. A strong commitment to safety, ability to work in all weather conditions, physical capability to lift up to 80 lbs, and a valid driver’s license are required.
Job Description
Key Qualifications:
-Trenching and Excavation: Expertise in operating trenching and excavation equipment to dig trenches for laying underground telecom cables.
-Equipment Operation: Proficiency in operating heavy machinery such as backhoes, excavators, trenchers, and directional drills.
-Utility Locating: Ability to read utility maps and use utility locating equipment to identify existing underground utilities to avoid damaging them during excavation.
-Understanding of Utility Markings: Familiarity with utility marking codes (e.g., color-coded markings for different utilities) and their significance in avoiding conflicts during excavation.
-Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
-Valid driver's license; Class A CDL preferred
-Ability to meet physical demands, including lifting up to 80 lbs.
Key Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
-Inspect and grease all assigned equipment (drill, mini-excavator, water truck, including pony motor and mixing system, mud vac, reel trailer, etc.).
-Fill the water truck and confirm the mud vac is empty.
-Assist the Locator in preparing materials for the workday.
-Help pothole all utilities.
-Dig entry and exit pits and set up the drill.
-Select the appropriate drill head based on soil conditions observed during potholing.
-Drill bore as instructed by the Locator and pull product back upon completion.
-Monitor tailings to maintain proper flow.
-Assist with placing and setting pedestals.
-Help restore work areas.
-Load and unload drills and excavators.
-Complete Job Safety Analysis (JSA), identifying workplace hazards such as traffic within 15 feet, trip risks, and nearby personnel.
-Transport equipment between job sites.
