Summary:
We are seeking a Central Office Technician with extensive experience in central office and data center environments to join our team in an office-based role. This position will leverage hands-on expertise in equipment management, fiber optics, and circuit migration, while performing technical tasks such as site audits, pre-wiring, and supporting system migrations. The ideal candidate will be proficient with DWDM, SONET, and IP equipment, with strong skills in Excel and reading circuit design cutsheets.
Responsibilities:
Site Auditing: Conduct site audits for equipment and fiber, ensuring all hardware and infrastructure are properly documented and maintained.
Pre-wiring & Labeling: Perform pre-wiring and proper labeling of fiber, ensuring accurate and organized setup for system installations.
Circuit Migration Support (3rd Shift): Provide support for circuit migrations, including planning, execution, and troubleshooting, during 3rd shift hours.
Powering Down Equipment: Manage the powering down and decommissioning of equipment, ensuring proper procedures are followed for safety and efficiency.
Technical Support: Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting support to customers and team members via phone, email, or remote support tools.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of technical issues, solutions, and service reports; update technical databases and logs.
Equipment Management: Monitor and manage equipment inventory; assist in preparing equipment for shipment or client installations.
System Monitoring: Assist in maintaining and monitoring company systems, ensuring they are functioning optimally.
Collaboration: Work closely with other technicians, engineers, and the customer service team to resolve issues and improve service delivery.
Training and Support: Train junior technicians and help onboard new employees in technical processes and office tools.
Quality Control: Ensure quality standards are met in all service-related processes and resolve any inconsistencies.
Requirements:
Experience:
Must have prior experience working in central office or data center environments.
Must have experience with DWDM, SONET, and IP equipment types.
Proven experience in circuit migration support (1-3 years preferred).
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of fiber optics, circuit migration, equipment powering, and troubleshooting.
Proficient in Excel, including creating and managing technical documentation, logs, and reports.
Must be able to read and interpret cutsheets (circuit designs) for accurate system setup and troubleshooting.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical individuals.
Problem-solving: Ability to quickly assess situations and apply troubleshooting procedures to resolve issues.
Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented office environment.
