Job Description
Swift Communications, a premier leader in fiber optic construction, is actively seeking experienced Fiber Optic Splicers to join our rapidly expanding team. We specialize in the installation, splicing, and maintenance of high-performance fiber networks for a variety of customers. If you're a seasoned splicer with the technical expertise and industry knowledge to handle complex fiber projects, this is your chance to join a team that values precision and efficiency.
Position Overview:
Work Duration: 3+ years of consistent work with new projects starting soon
Primary Locations:
Butte, MT (within a 1.5-hour radius)
Spokane, WA (new projects to begin in the next 3 months)
Work Type: Primarily OSP (Outside Plant) with a focus on buried fiber; some aerial work required based on project needs.
Fusion Splicing: Expert-level ability to fuse single-mode (SM) and multi-mode (MM) fibers with high accuracy and minimal signal loss.
Testing and Troubleshooting: Must be proficient testing, power meter/light source testing, and troubleshooting using tools such as the EXFO 945 or equivalent. Familiarity with reading and analyzing traces is a must.
Fiber Characterization: Ability to conduct attenuation tests, splice loss measurements, and ensure fiber continuity in both short-haul and long-haul networks.
Field Documentation: Maintain detailed as-builts, splice records, and update network schematics in line with industry standards.
Required Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in fiber optic splicing, testing, and troubleshooting with both underground and aerial fiber networks.
Equipment: Must have your own splicing tools and testing equipment. EXFO 945 is the recommended Tester for this work.
Skills: Proficiency in handling various customer requirements, from splicing all -count fibers (1 - 288+) to terminating cables in splice closures, pedestals, and patch panels.
Attention to Detail: Strong ability to perform end-to-end fiber characterization to ensure system performance meets or exceeds customer SLAs (Service Level Agreements).
Work Environment:
Year-round work with outdoor conditions that may vary based on the season. ( max 2 weeks of down time in middle of winter )
Flexibility to adapt to a mix of buried fiber and climbing or bucket work for aerial splicing.
Travel within the project radius is required; future opportunities to work in Spokane as projects ramp up.
