Qualifications

5 years minimum experience fusion splicing, troubleshooting, maintenancing existing network, new construction and 3rd party damage repairs. managing splicers or maintenance techs. Ability to read and decipher splice documents.

Must reside with-in a 45 minute or 50 mile radius of Pickrell, NE. At this time we do not offer relocation. High School Diploma or GED; Valid Driver's License; Clean Motor vehicle report. Ability to pass a 10 panel drug screen, DOT physical and criminal background check.

Job Description

Job Summary:

The OSP Splicing Supervisor is responsible for the OSP life cycle from site walk to design; to include, gathering information on permitting, fiber routing via aerial or buried and construction path. This also includes terminating, splicing, testing, repair, TTU outage reporting and documentation of network OSP info. The Splicing Supervisor will be responsible for the splicers under them as well as guiding them and their career at Nextlink to a successful one.

Essential Functions:

Position will consist of mainly daytime hours and some night work
Must know the fiber optic color code
Terminate, fusion splice, and install fiber optic connectors and enclosures for both loose tube and ribbon fiber
Ability to troubleshoot damaged fiber
Must be able to climb ladders and be comfortable in bucket truck working on aerial plant
Ensure that all needed tools and equipment are available at the jobsite / splicing trailers, with the ability to work from engineered documents, as well as in house records.
The ability to keep track of all production as well as production blockers
Supervise, train, and develop a team of fiber splicers underneath you
Fill-out daily production reports, mark-up KMZ’s, keep track of work hours, complete "as-built maps" for areas built
Reconcile all issued parts and materials daily to ensure accurate material counts and inventory quantities.
Perform quality control inspections by reviewing work completed by fellow employees
Must be willing to take work phone calls day or night as related to any fiber issues
Must keep an eye on other employees’ clock in / out times to make sure they are accurate and honest
Administer appropriate corrective disciplinary actions and prepare supporting documentation to address employee performance and/or behavioral issues
Proficient using fiber tools and test equipment, OTDR, fusion splicer, optical light source, and power meter
Must be able to site walk any land scenario to gather info on poles, ROW, HH placement and meet-me HH’s
Must be able to design KMZ’s for construction crew on new FTTH builds and any other KMZ’s as needed
Must be willing to lead the splicing team as their Supervisor and still take on a heavy workload at times
Must be flexible in their schedule to work odd hours at times
Must be able to work multiple jobs at a time putting equal focus on each so that all jobs are completed in a timely manner
Ability to resolve issues found in the field relating to private property / landowners etc.
Locate, sketch, and document detail information of OSP facilities: cables, poles, ground structures, terminals, manholes, and equipment
Acquire the necessary field information, record verifications, document preparation, required to prepare work order construction prints
Take detailed, measurements, notes, and photos of the proposed telecommunications network construction locations, cable routes, and equipment site
Complete field surveys, ROW (right of way) drawings, asset documentation, etc. to determine best routes for construction
Compile data required for the preparation of plans or work order drawings
Complete field notes and send them to the appropriate design team and/or management
Perform tasks such as walkouts, inspections, testing, etc. as required
Collect pole data for attachments and/or pole loading as required
Perform any research as requested by the company/customer
Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize industry tools, such as measuring wheels, height sticks, pull finders, MH/HH hooks, etc.

Must have a valid Driver’s License
Understand construction prints and splice documents
Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions as well as splice trailer
Dedicated to safety and keeping a safe work environment
Ability to work within a fast-paced, high-change environment while managing multiple interruptions and adjustments to priorities throughout the day.
Must pass a drug screening test and a criminal background check.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Experience with fiber tools
