Job Description
A coax splicer is responsible for the pre-trip inspection of their truck and trailer his crew will be using that day. This includes checking the fluid levels of the truck and keeping the truck clean, neat, and organized.
Communication skills are extremely important for a fiber splicer. Coax splicers are required to competently interact with customers on the phone and face to face. Also, keeping communication with crew members and the fiber supervisor are essential.
All coax splicers will have a professional attitude and appearance.
Read and interpret documents in the form of work orders, including (but not limited to) strand maps, PDF prints, Bentley prints, and any other CATV/fiber related document. Provide daily pay sheet and associated as built documentation at the end of each shift.
A coax splicer is required to complete the following tasks.
o Understand, assemble, and install CATV active and passive equipment in OSP and ISP locations. Including activating and balancing new and existing plant.
o Will construct risers using guard or conduit, including transfer of existing risers.
o Install conduit on buildings and install lockboxes.
o Install pedestals
o Install grounding devices including ground rods, wire, and associated hardware.
o Test and troubleshoot using an RF meter and multi-meter and provide pictures to proof new and retro splicing.
o Maintain and properly use all associated tooling.
o Adhere to NEC bonding and grounding requirements.
Experience & Physical Demands:
The coax splicer must have the ability to climb a utility pole using either gaffs or a fiberglass extension ladder, as well as operate a bucket truck. The employee is required to be able to lift and maneuver up to sixty pounds over their head on a daily basis. Also, the employee must be willing and able to work in extreme weather conditions the entire year.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability, and physical demand to perform as a coax splicer.
