Qualifications
Utilize proper techniques to splice fiber optic cable. Prep/Splice single-mode (SM) and multi-mode (MM) optical fiber Cables, Troubleshooting of fiber utilizing an OTDR. Proper record keeping and be able to review cable records as necessary. Knowledge, understanding and practice of safety regulations within OSHA, NESC, and NEC, and other construction related guidelines. Maintain equipment and vehicle to a high standard. Work indoors and outdoors as needed.
Other Requirements
Experience splicing ribboned and large count fiber. Experience building and re-entering enclosures and distributions cabinets. Experience working in a Charter, Comcast, or similar MSO network. Willingness to work in the Customer’s 12am-6am maintenance window as required. Troubleshooting and FTTH experience is preferred.
Job Description
Splicing large & small count Fiber Cables, Mid Sheath Cuts.
Prep/Splice single-mode (SM) and multi-mode (MM) optical fiber cables
Troubleshooting of fiber utilizing an OTDR.
Strong communication skills required between splicer and tech ops manager so that problems can be addressed as soon as possible.
Proper record keeping and be able to review cable records as necessary.
Knowledge, understanding and practice of safety regulations within OSHA, NESC, and NEC, and other construction related guidelines.
Maintain equipment and vehicle to a high standard.
Knowledge required by a Fiber Splicer:
Telecommunications— Knowledge of transmission and CATV telecommunications systems.
Public Safety— Knowledge of keeping work area safe to the public.
Computers and Electronics— Knowledge of electronic equipment and computer hardware/software for keeping proper records.
Mechanical— Knowledge of optical splicing equipment like a cleaver, splicer and bucket truck
