High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred. / Experience in Outside Plant Fiber Optic Fusion Splicing and Testing or an equivalent of training. / Basic knowledge in fiber cable technologies, structure, and handling a plus / Must be able to perceive differences in wire and cable colors. /

Must have strong attention to detail. / Must be computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Office. / Valid PA Driver’s License with a CDL medical card

A Fiber Technician creates new splices and maintains/repairs fiber networks according to the direction of the department manager and the needs of the client. He/she is also responsible for terminating and testing aerial and underground fiber optic cables. Fiber Technicians prep the cables into splice cases and complete the connections by connecting individual fibers within the cable. Splicers also rearrange fibers when optical cable lines are changed. Fiber technicians are responsible for testing the quality of the fusion splices by using an OTDR and Light Source/ Power Meter.

Fiber technicians are also responsible for troubleshooting and determining any loss of signal or continuity between termination points. Responsible for prepping and splicing various types of fiber cables (OSP, ADSS & OPGW). OTDR testing, power meter testing and Fiber Identifier. Troubleshoot and check for problems and errors. Be available for On-call situations. Able to review basic splicing prints and understand the scope of work.
