Job Description
Timberline Construction Group is looking for an experienced Fiber Construction Manager located near one of our strategic footprints. This candidate will plan, direct and coordinate activities pertaining to the daily operation of the outside fiber plant to include estimating, engineering, permitting, contracting, designing and maintenance of new fiber optic network build projects and existing fiber facility relocations.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for design and development of complex outside plant (OSP) equipment installations, modifications. Ensures all construction records and fiber mapping and as-builts are accurately tracked in company’s systems. Works closely with engineering firms, local/ state agencies and building owners/landlords on new building adds and relocations. Position also requires the capability to manage subordinate personnel. The Construction Manager will ensure that projects are completed to client and internal specification, on time, and within budget.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Develop accurate construction estimates for new opportunities and maintenance requirements.
• Coordinate all construction activities with local and state agencies with regards to permitting and licensing.
• Attend company and client status meetings as required.
• Will handle the day-to-day operations of the Outside Plant Fiber network to include, Engineering, permitting, contracting, design and existing Fiber facility relocations.
• Works closely with internal groups, design, permit and manage construction of new fiber network.
• Monitors infrastructure builds and reviews and approves work has construction standards.
• Prepare timelines for the projects, provide detailed daily reports.
• Will meet with contractors, permitting agencies, Engineering firms, customers, other OSP engineers and vendors to coordinate/mitigate projects.
• Utilizes a variety of systems for the processing and reporting of work activities, documentation of projects, new construction, and route maintenance/protection.
• Manage contractors/subcontractors for Engineering, permitting, and construction of Outside Plant infrastructure.
• Review proposed construction plan with to ensure design of network meets budget and expectations. Manage budget vs actuals on projects.
• Provide emergency response support for network outages and restoration.
• Ensure all materials are purchased for project and all operations systems are updated to reflect current project status.
• Experience OTDR testing and interpreting results is required.
• Some travel will be expected, both overnight and daily travel.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required.
• 5+ years of OSP fiber engineering and construction experience, with telecom experience preferred.
• Strong OSP construction knowledge with ability to read/red-line construction drawings to facilitate new builds, relocations, and emergency repairs.
• Extensive knowledge of permitting, engineering, contractor management, fiber splicing, project management, underground and aerial cable plant installation and maintenance.
• Assumes responsibility for contribution to the success of major or multiple projects and is periodically called upon to make decisions.
• Strong communication skills; thorough and attentive to details; able to prioritize and multitask; proactive and deadline oriented.
• Traveling to other states will be required.
