Other Requirements

Certified Fiber Optics Installer required or obtained within one of hire date.

Job Description

NATURE OF WORK:

Under general supervision, provides customer service and performs a variety of technical functions for the Town of Mountain Village’s Cable/Broadband Department. Will be responsible for fiber and equipment installation and troubleshooting for customer installations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs installation and maintenance duties inside plant, outside plant, and the head-end room including but not limited to laying cable/fiber, pulling cable/fiber, connecting and disconnecting cable/fiber and TV services; responds to, troubleshoots, and repairs cable/fiber and/or internet service issues; disconnects or reconnects subscribers as required and facilitates all locates.
Responds to call for service and assists in resolving system outage issues; troubleshoots, maintains, services and resolves problems within the cable plant and head-end room; conducts Cumulative Leak Index (CLI) testing and completes repairs, checks amplifier levels for signal quality, monitors and adjusts signal levels; and handles routine plant maintenance.
Reads and interprets utility maps/prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities; uses assigned communication equipment to effectively communicate with excavators, utility reps, and Town personnel, regarding underground facilities; will operate different electronic detection equipment, to locate and mark under-ground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits. May perform light excavation work to locate utilities.
Cleans and maintains head-end and other department rooms and vehicles for the purpose of ensuring safety and protection of company property.
Acts as a liaison, when necessary, between Mountain Village and its residents and guests, subcontractors, vendors, and merchants giving direction and assistance as needed.
Promotes and observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment; secures work sites as necessary; may attend safety committee meetings, actively participates in and may conduct tailgate trainings.
Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of the team
Reinforces the Town’s commitment to the environment by responsible use of electricity, natural gas, fuel, paper, water, and chemicals.
Performs cable and fiber mainline and drop locates as assigned.
Additional duties as assigned.
Fiber Service Duties:

Will be doing fiber installs (splicing) into the home but not doing lateral and mainline fiber cuts. Will assist with lateral and mainline fiber cuts.
Performs work inside, underneath and around customer’s homes and businesses to install wiring, outlets and equipment as needed; provides efficient and excellent customer service explaining service features, demonstrating equipment and troubleshooting as necessary.
Works with GIS in documenting TMV’s active and dark fiber network.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or G.E.D., and one-year experience installing cable/internet service, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.  Demonstrated computer skills in working with word processing, spreadsheet, time tracking and email software.

Licenses Certification(s):

Possession of a valid Colorado State Driver’s License is required. Certified Fiber Optics Installer required or obtained within one of hire date.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge of:  Cable television (CATV) and internet equipment and systems; processes for installing cable and internet service; tools and equipment relative to service installation and systems maintenance; customer service standards and protocol. Fiber and telecommunications systems; processes for installing fiber optics, tools and equipment relative to service installation and systems maintenance; customer service standards and protocol. Basic knowledge of traditional fiber architectures; basic knowledge of Coarse and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM/DWDM); knowledge of fiber optic systems, RF plant, and test equipment; knowledge of company products and services; knowledge of National Electric Code and National Electrical Safety Code.

Skill in:  Installing cable and internet service; providing customer service and technical support to subscribers; helping in ensuring the Town is provided with high quality and uninterrupted cable and internet service; conducting routine systems maintenance work out in the field and at the headend. Installing fiber optic services; providing customer service and technical support to subscribers; helping in ensuring the Town is provided with high quality and uninterrupted fiber service; conducting routine systems maintenance work in the field and at the headend.

Environmental Factors:

Work is performed primarily in outdoor environments with exposure to extreme weather conditions.

Physical Factors:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk for extended periods of time, utilize maintenance tools, and lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
