Job Description

The primary responsibilities of the Fiber Optic Lineman - Crew Lead will be to install fiber optic cable, strand and associated hardware, read and maintain prints, schematics and diagrams, taking and maintaining accurate field notes, support project timelines, maintaining and acquiring all necessary material and equipment to complete the assigned work orders. Other responsibilities and qualifications may be required. This position requires field work which may include overtime, weekends, holidays, and off hours.

This is opening is a Full-Time Direct Hire position.

Essential Functions

Provide leadership, guidance and actively train/promote learning to all crew members
Implement and follow through with job instructions provided by leadership
Oversee the daily operations and quality of work performed at assigned sites
Install and Repair fiber optic cable
Bury drops as needed
Place, relocate and remove fiber
Review project plans, specifications and installation instructions to ensure project is build according to design specifications
Properly document work and follow company processes accordingly
Reports in to team Supervisor and Manager

Skills & Abilities

Excellent teamwork and leadership skills
Perform work in accordance with industry standards. Be familiar with company standards, read and follow design engineers’ instructions and specifications, maintain the scope of work on the project and adhere to all safety procedures
Reconcile all issued parts and materials on a daily basis to ensure accurate material usage counts
Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs., frequent standing position, along with reaching out with arms. Occasional climb/balance/stoop/kneel crouch/crawl is required with communication
Ability to properly use all tools and equipment necessary to perform assigned tasks-including Drills, Cable Cutters, Hammer Drill, Splicer, Cleaver, Lasher
A high standard of work ethics with an ability to perform all work in a neat and quality manner
Ability to adhere to safety guidelines and requirements including wearing all forms of PPE
Ability to work in adverse conditions including all weather conditions
Work aloft and in close spaces up to 30ft in ladder, or hand climb utility poles using gaffs; work in manholes
Willingness to work flexible schedules including weekends, holidays and evenings
Ability to read a print and follow color coordinated routings
Safely operate and use bucket truck to complete daily construction assignments as needed
Basic daily maintenance of provided vehicle: check fluids, clean and organize vehicle

Education & Experience

3+ years experience leading a crew
5+ years experience as a lineman
OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety Training
CDL Class B with Air Brake Endorsement (preferred)
Valid NYS Driver License is required, pre-employment drug test, security license verification
High school diploma or GED preferred; college or technical/vocational school a plus
