Re: CATV--->Peter, W.O.A.C.G.----->

Consider:

John Smith posts a request for information about Peter Gunn Co, Inc.

Scenario #1:
Jim Johnson, who dislikes Peter Gunn, creates an account as "ihategunn" and leaves the profile blank. He uses it to post a reply to John Smith's post, calling Peter Gunn Co., Inc. a "bunch of S.O.B's, etc."

Scenario #2:
A new Bar policy prevents him from posting annonymously, so Jim Johnson sends an email from his HotMail account directly to John Smith, calling Peter Gunn Co., Inc. a "bunch of S.O.B.'s, etc.".

What's the main difference between the above? With #2, Peter Gunn Co., Inc. loses the opportunity to see what Jim Johnson is doing. The expression, "keep your friends close, but your enemies closer" is a valid one.

Thousands of people manage to use this site responsibly, and value that their privacy is protected in doing so. It would be wrong to punish the many for the few who abuse the privilege. Unfortunately, though, as the industry has gotten worse over the last couple of years there have been more and more of the abusers it seems. Because of this, I've added a higher level account to the software which you'll see fully implemented soon. These accounts are only given to verified users.

That's why you can't see IP addresses anymore. Only those higher level accounts can see them. This change was made because of concern that IP addresses could be used maliciously. There are hacker programs that any idiot can use to do a great deal of harm just by knowing someone's IP address.
