To get the best out of your cable modem your entire system should be up to date. Make sure you have a good -56 drop or u\g survice line to your house. You should also have a direct home run from the Ground block directly to your modem, once again a -56 line. Don't use any of that -59 radio shack\ dollar store crap. Thier fittings, splitters, and line are junk.

I often see people with the "home install kit" That have a -59 drop, and after tracing the lines I find out that there's 3 splitters before the modem.........

And they wonder why the modem is so slow or can't get a lock?



> I live in a 2-way CATV system with cable modem service. My download speeds vary from 500K to as low as 32K at times. Lately download speeds are almost always under 100K. I know download speeds depend on bandwidth and my question is what affects the bandwith in the downstream path.
