Looking for work in VA(Hampton/NewportNews Area) Please Help.

I have install experience and knowledge of underground, looking for either. I am currently working as a cook. I lke cable much better. I'm looking for something around the newportnews area. I'm also searching for a contractor who goes by the name of captain cable. If anyone has heard of him please let me know. i want to see if he has any emloyment oppurtunities availibe. I really am eager to work with cable again(it's in the blood). A friend of mine contracts for mastec, buthe holds the first check for a month, does all mastec contractors do this? And I've also heard that when you join mastec they make yu get your own contractors liscense, is this true? I'd eventually would like to get a liscense to contract. In Gloucester, there are no contractors really and cox hasn't fully upgraded, if at all yet. i was thinking if I get a liscence I could open up shop.
