I personally never do business with any company or any person that I have not at least talked to on the phone. Most of the time, 95%+, I have met the company principes before I do business for them. That said, Im old school and know nothing of the apps or communications companies you have mentioned above.
As for 1099, which is used to report payments to the IRS for independent contract work, I would not expect to give any of that information to the paying company except on the proper IRS forms (the form number escapes me). And then only what is required on that form. I think it asks for either your EIN or your SSN depending on if you are incorporated, limited liability company or sole proprietor. The information they are asking for is for an in-house employee. In that case a W-2 is sent to the employee & IRS by the employer.
I personally would NEVER work as a sole proprietor! If that is what you are doing, I would STRONGLY suggest that you hire an attorney to incorporate or LLC your company. Get a good CPA to set up the books for that entity. Make sure you have a good BUSINESS INSURANCE COMPANY that you can talk to in person (not online only companies) I know the online companies are cheaper BUT when you need to submit a claim, you will be much happier with the agent you can sit across the desk from and actually get paid for your claim. And unless you are independently wealthy, I would have a personal relationship with a good business banker and a line of credit, if needed. Hope this helps.
Bottom line, if I were you, I look elsewhere for work.
