Although it may seem to you that all contractors are crooks and rob the sub-contractors, not all are dishonest. I have worked for several contractors as a sub-contractors and was always paid. Was I lucky? No, I did my homework as everyone should do BEFORE you work for anyone. Then I did the work to their specifications. I have also hired sub-contractors when I was a prime contractor. And I always paid the subs for all the work they did that was accepted by the owner of the project.
A person who has as many company names as years they have been in business is a huge red flag. I would not work for them.
