Re: How to get contract

It is an evolutionary process that could takes months but more likely years before you get your first contract.   It is not as easy as walking in an office and talking to someone who doesn’t know you, then walking out with a contract.  You must first have a relationship with the contact within the company you want to work for that has the authority to hire contractor.   In addition, you must have a good track of the task you want to sell.   As you said, you have been doing drop bury for some time, that is a good start.  But without a contact, you will go nowhere.   The next step is to put on your sales hat and start talking to the people you already know.  Like maybe the bury drop inspectors or dispatchers.   Ask who their boss is and talk to their boss, then their boss’ Boss.  Just keep working your way up the ladder until you meet the person who has the power to hire contractors.  Other routes; Maybe you know someone who knows someone, Go to local vender days,  Attend as many industry gathering where middle management will convene and rub elbows.

But before you meet any of these people, make sure you are ready to be a prime contractor.  You will be asked about your capacity and pricing.  You are going to need help, insurance, and lots of money besides equipment.  From the time you get the contact and get your first payment from the company will be at least 3 months or more depending on a number of factors.

Hope this helps.  There is a lot more to getting started than this short bit of advice.  ‘Good luck.

ps DO NOT UNDER QUOTE A JOB, JUST TO GET YOUR FOOT IN THE DOOR.  You will. E sorry and out of business before you know it.
