Need to verify contractor

I am in talk with a contractor for work in nw Missouri, the contractors name on the contract is C&J construction & telecom llc has their office in Tennessee but according to the Secretary of State they have been inactive/disolve I contacted the contractor and they said it’s because they move office to va but the Virginia Secretary of State has no records
