so I did this probably about 15 years ago but it was only about 1200 feet of 720 or 860 that was bad on the reel but wasn't discovered until we had buried that section. They asked us to excavate the bad cable to turn back into the supplier for a refund. We ran a backhoe on the entire thing at a rate of like $2 or so a foot but also got the bury rate again to place the new cable so overall not bad. Honestly outside of backhoe or shovel work I'm not sure how you would get it out cleanly. Certainly a plow could snag parts of it but would never get it all.
