I still have at least three DeLorme Atlas map books in my work vehicle, and many more of those red magazines at home. I used one in Mt. Vernon and outside Evansville way back when. I can't tell you how many city or area maps I have purged from the home office files in the past years. They still surface from all the boxes of mapping crap. They always allowed me to become more comfortable in that particular place, because I could see the street layouts in relation to north/south/east/west. DeLormes were mandatory for cell tower backhaul mapping in places like KY and W. VA. You tend to develop better navigation skills, I believe, when you can link visual landmarks to locations on a paper map. But...what do I know??
