Not really. There are plenty of projects that pay decently if you been around for a while and have a good reputation. At least in the fiber splicing world. But like any other business cutting costs is important and the easiest way to do it is with labor expenses. Inflation doesn't help either.

If you pay someone enough for him to be bitching about pay all the time but the same person keeps working, you're probably paying him exactly how much you should.
