The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

Proverbs 12:15

I’m sure we’ve all made decisions that we later regretted—usually because we didn’t think them through or stop to consider the consequences.

But some people seem prone to making bad decisions, and you may be one of them. Perhaps your emotions get in the way and overwhelm you, and instead of stopping to think through the decision, you follow your emotions and act unwisely. Or perhaps you let other people influence you in the wrong way, and you end up following their advice. The prodigal son was convinced that leaving home and living a wild life was the right decision—but he was wrong, as he eventually discovered (see Luke 15:11-32).

What should you do? First, put your life into God’s hands. The most important decision you will ever make is to give your life to Jesus Christ—and it’s one decision you’ll never regret. By a simple prayer of faith ask Christ to come into your life today.

Then ask God to help you make wise decisions—decisions that come from His will. He loves you, and knows what is best for you. Why not seek His will, even in small things? When you face a decision, first ask Him to help you pause … ponder … and pray. The Bible says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” (James 1:5).
