I know a guy who owed about $45,000.00 in tax plus penalties & interest came up to over $80K. He claims he ended up paying $15K+ to the IRS & about $5K to these guys

You need to save every receipt & keep good records. When I was 1099ing it, I saved 20% of every check to cover my taxes & usually it ended up being less after all the expenses I could deduct.
