Regional State SCTE where you can at least meet some of the Engineers/Techs...they can tell you whats happening in their region.
If you have fiber experience, you got other trades that can use your services as I've installed fiber for:  Pipeline, Wind, Solar, OSP-Smart Bldg, auto plants, coal mines, steel mills, private municipalites, college, correctional, phone and power companies.  My fiber projects date back from 1965-2015.
Cable TV is just one part of being a diversified contractor.  Your best bet is to hook up was a good Prime, let them do the marketing, you just provide the labor.
