The NCTI and SCTE courses are a good learning tool, they will never be as good as hands on training, try to do both. Talk to the grouchy old system guys and ask them if you can run some after hours outages or plant extensions to learn to splice, activate and trouble shoot. It's the guys that ask to be taught that I prefer teaching.
