Many Christians wish to downplay the Old Testament. They point out that God sent his son to die for our sins so that we may have eternal life. God did this as an act of incredible love, they say. There are too many problems with this to fully describe in one sitting. I know there are books on the subject. Here are a few of the problems. First, Jesus is the son of God, but he is also God. So, God sent himself to die for our “sin”, which is a concept he created. There would be no such thing as sin, except he decided to make us defective and unworthy of him, calling this defect our ‘sinful nature’. Coincidentally, the only cure for it is to grovel to him. Again, we have the Free Will to be cured of our problem (he can make us whole and forgiven), but we must repent and follow him… OR ELSE. He could have absolved our alleged sin that he gave us in any way he wanted. Why did he choose human sacrifice? And what is up with all the animal sacrifice in the OT? Why is this God so bloodthirsty, and why do more people not question it? Whatever, he chose human sacrifice because he wanted it that way.
