Make Ready survey is paid by the pole or by the foot, average mile has around 40 power poles and if telephone poles around 44.
It all depends on what your making ready for: coax, fiber, power, telephone, fire alarm, MAN,etc.     Now a days it's all done with GPS-GIS, years gone by we had to measure each pole to be contacted, pole numbers, who was attached, measurements from ground up for each contact, guy wires, ground, pots, etc.    Then you went mid span and did the same.  Years ago you only had to measured those poles in violation to NESC...If you need more info, forms, (-REDACTED-)   MicroMan
