The good switches at NAPA used to cost 13 each and for a while you could find the exact same toggle right down to the numbers on it at Lowes for 5 each. They lasted for years and years. Maybe they are the cheap ones but they lasted for us.
I see the alt, has been replaced, so this shouldn't be it. But there is a diode in them that will wipe out a battery when in it is not running, but they still charge fine when running. But you mechanic would know about that anyway.
I had trucks that were wired where the switches ALWAYS had power to them with no problems, for 14-15 years. Good luck
