That theft of services idea is one I didn't try.
My last ride was easier because the contractor / employer paid with checks that bounced. At that point the cops became interested......most got paid...some retail customers, I think, never got back deposits for custom work the guy collected.
I just got tired of having to sue to get paid...packed my tent.

Just remembered the other consideration. You get a choice...collect in civil court OR file criminal charges. Theft of services would be going that way. IF the guy has assets the possibility of doing time may get you paid in exchange for droping charges. AND even though he goes to jail the judge may require restitution as a term of probation.
You are still grinding time and money to get paid......always add attorney fees and interest to anything you try to sue for or you cannot have it in a judgment.
