Optimizing thru MUX Nodes

We have about 14 nodes (Motorola SG2000) that feed back to a "MUX Node". All the Mux nodes are for the upstream only. The  MUX Nodes have  a Harmonic Transmitter that transmit back to the Hub the nodes that are feeding the MUX. We are getting high transmits (46 with 0pads) at these nodes that feed the MUX. Some are as low as 41.  Is there a way to optimize these nodes? Do you send a carrier from the node to the MUX? How about from the MUX transmitter to the HUB? What should light levels be? Any  info would be greatly apperciated
Thanks
