I don't think the president can interfere with a union issue unless it affects the public safety...and trust me, Twinkies are far from a public safety matter.
I could be wrong, I don't know much about unions or how they work.
Hostess wants to reduce how much they pay their work force, IMO, they should just raise the price of a twinkie.
