Mistake made can't pass background check.

I made one mistake and I can't get hired anywhere so far. I've got over 15 years tech experience and I'm a certified installer for Directv. I have a class A Misdeamenor in NH, it was something stupid that involed theft. I'm not that type of person just made a mistake and a big deal was made of it. I've learned that no one cares about anyone anymore. Does anyone know a way that I could get a installer job installing Directv in the NH area without dealing with a bcakground check? I've been honest with potential employers and told them the story. They understand but have had to turn me down do to the background check. This type of work is the only thing I'm really good at and it is the stuff I know. Any help would be great. Thanks
