On the way home stopped by the store to get a few things and out front the VFW was selling poppies. The Vet who looked to be in his 80's asked me if I wanted to buy one. I didn't have any cash on me spent the last at the parking garage. He gave me the yeah sure I know your full of shit look as I walked away. So I got a extra 10 when I used my debit card. On the way out I walked up to him dropped the 10 in the jar came to attention and snapped a salute, said "As one Vet to another I thank you for your service." Quick as a wink the old guy straightened up came to attention returned the salute then shook my hand then pinned the poppy on the top buttonhole of my jean jacket.
I was walking back to the car and my wife who is Japanese asked if I knew that man and what was that all about? I said of course I know him he's my brother and that I'll explain the whole thing to her later. She just stood there for a moment and gave me that yeah sure look then asked what do you want for dinner?
Anyway for all my other brothers out there I THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE
