Today we are all meeting to say our final goodbyes to one hell of a lineman. Jackson Hole Park, Oak Hill, FL 2:00 PM. Anyone who had the pleasure of working with Cowboy knew what old school was all about. He was a Viet Nam veteran with the 101st Airborn. Some of my sons called him Dad, some called him Boss, they all called him family. We got the news of his cancer just a few months ago. He said he'd fought worse battles and won and that he was going to fight this one just as hard. He suffered through a few treatments but it was too late, he was going to lose this one. Wednesday night my 2nd called and said he'd just left Cowboy at Hospice and this would be the night. I held his hand for hours counting every breath until he took his last one. I'd never done that before and I pray I don't ever have to do it again. It was bittersweet. I loved him so much and he deserved to be honored to the end. We were never a couple, but we were a couple of drinkers. That's what we did best together. I had to apologize to the tending nurse because in his final hour I was calling out the raunchiest toasts imaginable. You know the ones that all the lineman yell out when drinking together in bars and at parties. Rats, cats, dirty ass, 69, douchbag, tie it in a knot.....I'm a fucking lineman, who the fuck are you!" If you're reading this and you'd like to throw out one of those kind of toasts, I'd love to read your favorites. It may end of being the last words heard by another passing brother.
