I2C indicates a short is occurring and the unit is shutting off. This happens from people repeatedly connecting dish jumpers directly to the birdog. To avoid wearing out your birdog, buy a 90-degree male-to-female connector and connect a short piece of coax to it and tighten a barren onto it. Then just connect your jumpers to the barrel so you don't ever connect directly to the birdog. As soon as you get weird readings, replace the barrel on the end of your coax.
You can buy the 90 degree fitting at RadioShack.
