Sounds like all the pulling and replacing of the fitting finally cleaned off the center conductor.

Remember guys .... Clean your center conductors well when doing digital device installs. Those digital freqs travel on the outer portion of the copper (skin effect).

Score the center conductor, water damage, dialectric grease, even a cable condom will mess with modems, voip, and tv pics too.
