I've always thought of it as having 2 way communication on a particular media be it wired or wireless.
If you have telemetry you have 2 way comm.
Remember the Mars Rover? The scientists lost telemetry, meaning they couldnt get a response from it.
Seems engineers always gotta come up with some big word to explain simple stuff.
