                                Satellite systems require voltage switching to operate effectively
if you split it, voltage to the LNB will be affected, and you will get the wrong channel, you see this when, your receiver malfunctions and refuses to switch voltage. (MSNBC where CNN should be.) two runs to the unit will guarantee that the unit can provide the best services it can offer.
Dish network for some time now has been requiring two runs per unit. Only slackers use the included Splitter.
Cable receivers require no voltage to switch and as a result can be split as many times as you need with proper amplification.
