As companies grow bigger and bigger, generally the lower the company will pay the installer.  And as a last resort, the technician has few options.  I feel a union is a perfectly logical solution in order for the installer to have representation within the company.
I also feel this happens as need be.  No company has ever had their employees form a union without cause.  No employee would risk losing thier jobs (A RISK I HAVE HAD TO TAKE AND LOSE) to form a union for no good reason.
