"Certified" is a relative term used by people with limited OSP/ISP Fiber knowledge. Ask them whether they want ETA, Bicsi, Aces, or one of the many other organizations that offer a "Certification" of Fiber Optics. Practically all of them offer only a basic overview of using a Fusion Splicer, OTDR, and OTS. Those of us that have been doing Fiber Optics as a full time career regard these "Certifications" only when hiring entry level fiber technicians to start the 3-6 year of on-the-job training, and not a factor in final selection. If that is what they want, then contact Electronics Technicians of America (ETA) or Bicsi to locate a course that will give you the required documentation. For those of you thinking this cert will guarantee a job in OSP fiber, save the $1000-$2000. Locate a "documented" proficient company and intern. I read something about after prepping the cable that the "fusion splicing machine does the rest", I make a pretty good living on that premise. It is true that the actual splicing is the easiest part, but the most critical in completing a project with the highest profit. The technician who relies on the splicing machine to do it's thing, just made a mistake. Sorry for the long message.
