New Bird in the air with 100 hdtv channels


Rainbow DBS expects to launch its state-of-the-art satellite from Cape Canaveral on July 17 and plans to begin commercial service later this year. Rainbow DBS will be available to between 80 percent and 90 percent of the country and expects to offer a unique combination of more than 100 high definition (HDTV) and standard definition (SD) channels. This offering will package superior picture quality in an innovative fashion delivered via a single 18" rooftop dish.

Cablevision is expected to retain the rights to offer DBS service in the New York area; Rainbow DBS is expected to offer DBS service in the rest of the nation. Further particulars regarding the launch and the satellite service will be released at a later date.

Cablevision also indicated that the company is no longer pursuing the sale of Clearview Cinemas.
