I live 1300' from the nearest cable tap, and I REALLY want cable internet. I had a w/o set up to check and that's when I got the 1300' measurement and the guy that called me told me it'd cost me $2000+ just to get a line brought to my house. Now I have worked for this MSO for approximately 5 years doing residential installs, and that still didn't seem to matter. I can get my hands on a couple rolls of RG-11 to run a line from the pole to my door by myself, and all I need is 1 outlet capable of modem service, but I know that I'm gonna need some kind of amp or something, but the tests I've tried thus far show that the rx is ok but the tx goes through the roof. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I really don't wanna run all this line only to find out that there's nothing I can do to make it work short of opening the old wallet. Considering they've cut the prices on my installs at least 3 times in the last few years, I can't afford that much. I appreciate anything you guys can do!!
