Under the direction of the Supervisor of Telecom Trades, the Installer will be utilized to maintain and install various Telecom equipment and structures as well as assist other trades with Installer projects throughout Butler America.

Constantly: Involves 2/3 or more of workday.
Frequently: 1/3 to 2/3 of workday.
Occasionally: Involves 1/3 or less of workday.

Standing & Walking: Frequently - stands and walks while working on installation projects or supervising installers, when on installation site throughout the day.
Sitting: Frequently - sits while completing required paperwork, working on certain equipment.
Lifting: Frequently - lifts throughout the day. Handles a tool bag weighing 8-10 pounds. The worker will also handle metal, telecom equipment, cable, frames weighing from 5-90 pounds. These are usually tipped onto a cart and may be pulled up a flight of stairs when working in areas; otherwise, installers can be utilized to assist with lifting and carrying if they are available.
Carrying: Frequently - carries tools, materials, and equipment to perform repair jobs or projects, or inspections. At times, heavier items such as planks, aluminum studs, or pumps may need to be moved from one location to another or up and down stairs. Typically, inmates or additional staffs are used to assist with these functions.
Bending/Stooping: Frequently – required to bend/stoop while working on projects involving picking up metal, Telecom equipment, cable, frames, etc.
Reaching in Front of Body: Frequently – reaches in front of body when driving or working on installer projects such as hammering, cabling, wiring, etc.
Reaching Overhead: Frequently – reaches overhead when climbing up stationary ladders or working on installation projects such as installing overhead racking, lighting/ A/C, cabling.
Climbing: Frequently - utilizes ladders to access the roof, work on doors, gates, and other equipment. Each of the living units contains stairs which must be accessed to complete required tasks.
Balancing: Frequently – required when the worker is on stationary ladders, scaffolding or when pulling a dolly or cart upstairs.
Pushing/Pulling: Frequently – required when using hand tools, moving Telecom equipment in and out of vehicle; installation of cabling, installation of metal structure
Kneeling/Crawling: Frequently - kneels/crawls while installing Telecom equipment in and out of vehicle; installation of cabling, installation of understructure.
Crouching: Frequently – while installing cable, wiring, labeling, and other misc. Telecom equipment.
Fine Finger Dexterity: Frequently - utilizes these skills while working on intricate mechanical/electrical devices and in the completion of paperwork associated with timekeeping duties.
Gripping/Grasping with Hands: Frequently – while installing; cable, metal structure, Telecom equipment and completing required paper work.
Hand/Wrist Movement: Constantly – required to use their hands in many aspects of the job such as installing cable, metal structure, Telecom equipment and completing required paper work.
Driving: Occasionally – to pick up or deliver materials or tools to projects.
Hearing/Speech/Sight: Adequate vision is required to perform installation work, installers, and to ensure customer security. Adequate speech and hearing are required to effectively communicate with co-workers.
Temperature Extremes: Depending upon the nature of the job being performed and the season, exposure to temperatures ranging between 32ºF and 120ºF may be experienced.
Working Surfaces: Frequently – surfaces consist of concrete floor.
Toxic or Caustic Chemicals: Occasionally – works with glues, pastes, and sealers.
Noise and Vibration: Occasionally – works with vibrating drills, jackhammers, and roto-hammers to complete repairs.
Risk of Electrical Shock: Occasionally – exposed to risk of electrical shock when around electrical equipment in mechanical rooms.
Works in High, Precarious Places: Occasionally - some jobs tasks require working on metal structure located 10 to 20 feet high.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND WORK-AIDS: Ladders, scaffolding, boom truck, carts, hand tools, jackhammer, drills, dump truck, flashlights, roto-hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, power crimpers.

The Installers are expected to work independently and/or with other installation staff to accomplish both essential and non-essential job duties. One or more installer’s may be utilized in the performance of these duties; however, the employee must be able to meet the physical demands as described because inmate workers are not always available. Due to security requirements, inmates are not permitted to work on the building infrastructures, in any of the equipment rooms located within customers buildings.
