GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
This is a skilled work level in the construction, maintenance, and repair of communication line systems. Work is frequently performed in close proximity to high tension wires requiring skill and safe work practices and procedures.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
The following is a guide of general duties. Qualifications, training and experience will be evaluated by employer and will dictate specific job tasks to be determined by the employer.
•Adhere to safety practices and procedures, such as checking equipment regularly and erecting barriers around work areas.
•Drive vehicles equipped with tools and materials to job sites.
•Climb poles or use truck-mounted buckets to access equipment.
•Install, maintain, and repair communication, including conduits, cables, wires, and related equipment.
•Replace or straighten damaged poles.
•Pull up cable by hand from large reels mounted on trucks.
•Dig holes, using augers, and set poles, using cranes and power equipment.
•String wire conductors and cables between poles, towers, trenches, pylons, and buildings, setting lines in place and using winches to adjust tension.
•Trim trees that could be hazardous to the functioning of cables or wires.
•Coordinate work assignment preparation and completion with other workers.
•Travel in trucks, to inspect lines for freedom from obstruction and adequacy of insulation.
•Lay underground cable directly in trenches, or string it through conduit running through the trenches.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a valid driver's license. High school graduate or equivalent. Drug screening is conducted prior to being hired!
