H&M is also a founding member of the ET&D Partnership, a collaborative industry partnership working to reduce fatalities, injuries, and illnesses in the electric line construction industry, is currently seeking a Fiber Optic Cable Splicing Superintendent for our Telecom program operating out of Detroit, Michigan.
This position reports to the Construction Manager. The position is located at the Detroit, Michigan office.

Major Job Elements
• Adhere to and advance Henkels & McCoy’s Safety Principles Work with Project Manager /Construction Manager to plan installations as required.
• Provide the work coordination and direction for the Fiber Optic Cable Splicing Team.
• Use and understand the fiber optic color code. Read prints, splice assignment schematics, Pre and post splice test data.
• Knowledge of both aerial and underground splice closures along with a variety of other closures, cabinets and terminals common to the splicing and termination of fiber optic cables.
• Use of fiber fusion splicing machines (including a mass fusion splicing machine) and operate a variety of different OTDR and power meters for both ribbon and loose tube fiber optic cable.
• Perform testing utilizing OTDRs, Power Meter/Light Sources and VFLs. Record and document testing per customer specifications.
• Maintain a professional working attitude with co-workers and customers at all times.
Qualifications
• Proven experience as a fiber splicer with experience on outside plant or system installations while working from blueprints, specifications, and system documentation.
• Have five years or commensurate experience in splicing, fiber management, and in a supervisory role.
• Will have a thorough working knowledge of most widely used construction practices of fiber cable.
• Must have the experience to detect safety issues and work independently.
• A pre-employment, on site skills assessment certification will be required. The applicant must successfully prove to the satisfaction of the Construction Manager that he/she possesses the fiber splicing abilities required for this position.
• This position requires walking on uneven ground, working in tight spaces and in general. Must be able to perform heavy physical work and perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
• Must be capable of carrying a 24 foot ladder and wear fall protection when needed.
• Work up to 6 days per week in an all -weather environment and be willing to travel as required.
